Disney’s Old Key West Resort: A Relaxing Escape with Hidden Perks

DVC

If you’re looking for a laid-back, tropical retreat at Walt Disney World, Disney’s Old Key West Resort might be the perfect fit. As the original Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort, it boasts some of the largest rooms on property, beautiful pastel-colored buildings, and a charming Key West-inspired atmosphere. After spending my latest Disney vacation at Old Key West, I found plenty to love about this hidden gem.

A Convenient Stay Near the Hospitality House

One of the biggest advantages of our stay was our room location near the Hospitality House. If you’re considering Old Key West, I highly recommend requesting a room in this area. Being close to the Hospitality House meant we were just steps away from the feature pool, dining options like Olivia’s Café, the gift shop, and the main bus stop. With such easy access to the heart of the resort, we never had to worry about long walks to grab a quick bite or hop on transportation to the parks.

That said, I can see the appeal of staying in one of the more distant buildings. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, a room further away from the main hub might be ideal. Old Key West is a sprawling resort, and while that can mean extra walking, it also provides a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle.

A Hidden Gem: The Community Hall

One of the highlights of our stay was the Community Hall, a feature that often goes overlooked at Disney resorts. Open for most of the day, it provided free activities that my daughter could enjoy anytime she wanted. From arts and crafts to games and movies, it was the perfect spot to take a break from the parks while still having fun. This was a fantastic perk, especially for families looking to add some relaxed, no-cost entertainment to their trip.

The Old Key West Atmosphere

The overall vibe of Old Key West is what makes it truly special. Unlike some of the busier resorts, this one feels like a vacation within a vacation. The pastel-colored buildings, lush landscaping, and peaceful waterways create an atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy your surroundings. Whether you’re taking a boat ride to Disney Springs or lounging by the pool, the resort encourages you to embrace that island state of mind.

Final Thoughts

Old Key West offers a fantastic blend of space, relaxation, and hidden perks. If you value convenience, staying near the Hospitality House is a great choice, while those seeking tranquility may prefer the outer buildings. The Community Hall adds an extra layer of fun, especially for families with kids who enjoy activities outside of the parks. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Disney traveler, this resort is worth considering for your next stay.
